The Day ring

This ring has 13 holes, two of which are marked with a dark petal. This peg moves one hole anti-clockwise every day. Landing on a hole on a dark petal indicates that the sun peg should be moved. Weeks are 6 days long with a 7th day at the end of the second week

The Month ring

This ring has 16 holes and indicates the current month of the year. Leap months have a moon next to the hole. These holes are only used in leap years, and only one of them is used in a leap year. The peg moves one hole anti-clockwise each time the Lunation Ring lands on the 1st/New Moon.

The Lunation ring

This ring is comprised of two rings, one with 29 holes and one with 30. The peg moves anti-clockwise around each ring alternatively one hole per day. This indicates the date of the month, and also the phase of the moon.

The Year ring

This ring has 19 holes and indicates the current year in the 19-year Metonic cycle. Some of these holes are marked with a moon next to them, indicating a leap year. This peg moves anti-clockwise one hole, each time the month ring peg lands on the first month of winter.

The Moon ring

This ring has 56 holes and indicates the current position of the moon in the zodiac, or along the ecliptic. The peg moves two holes per day anti-clockwise. You might choose to move this one hole in the morning, and one hole in the evening.

The Sun ring

This ring also has 56 holes and marks the sun’s passage through the zodiac. The peg is moved anti-clockwise one hole when the Day ring indicates to do so. Three of these holes are marked by a Descending node symbol: ☋
Landing on one of these indicates that the node pegs must be moved.

The Node ring

This is the only ring to rotate clockwise and contain two pegs opposite each other, known at the Ascending (red) and Descending (blue) nodes. These pegs indicate the points in the sky where the path of the sun and the moon cross. The pegs are moved together whenever the sun peg lands in a hole marked with a Descending node symbol.
